Bangkok
(located 210m from Parc 55 Hotel)

NOW CLOSED
Located a stone's throw away from the hotel and opened daily till late, this place serves up authentic Thai cuisine.

 Ordered on 18Oct2014:
 Sweet and savory Pad Thai.
Sweet Pad Thai was a little too sugar heavy, but the savory was a home run. Furthermore, one could elect for the noodles be changed to vermicelli. Tomyam soup ordered was to standard, as was the mango salad. A good balance of sweet, sour and tartness.

USD115 for 7 pax.

Ordered On
06May2014:
Khao Pad Tom Yam
Stir fried rice with Tom Yum sauce, milk, shrimp, egg, baby corn,
tomato, bell pepper and mushroom.

USD8.50

*Large portions and not at all skimping on the ingredients. Their Thai chili powder table side really gave that added kick. Worth the order and for a take-away.*
Beef Noodle Soup USD7

Pad Ga-Prow (Pork Dish) USD7.50

Chua C S, "Not bad. To Thai Standard."
Fed 3: Total USD30 with Tips

A much better Thai joint in my opinion as compared to the closer Thai joint than Old Siam, (click here for ABBA review of Old Siam). Even without Old Siam's 20% compulsory gratuity, portions at Bangkok are much larger by comparison with more fillings, authentic tastes and edging out its Old Siam in terms of flavors. Price point dish for dish, cheaper and without the compulsory 20% gratuity that comes with Old Siam's bill.

Cliff House
Although The Cliff House is a - To Eat, I really felt that this place is a must stop place before setting of on your journey. (Don't miss out on walking down to the coast at the cliff house. A must do. Click here for Full Write up and pictures!)
An incredibly picturesque view, sitting cliffside by the sea. One gets to enjoy from choosing
between two bistros for dining at the Cliff House. Definitely, a not to be missed view and dining experience, with large window panes to maximize the postcard scenery which stands before you.

There are loads of pictures in the restaurants, reflecting the long history of Cliff House, depicting how it had been standing for many years and even survived a fire.
*Bistro downstairs with similar prices to upstairs joint*
*The remnants of the public pool back in the day.*
From the pictures and as seen in the video, one can still see the remnants of the once public pool during the golden age.
Dined at Cliff House Bistro for Brunch

Something a little different about this place is the type of bread they serve up. The bread's here are more like profiteroles. Served light, hot and the accompanying jam are amazing. especially the marmalade, which in most cases have a bitter taste to them, but not so with this here. Sweet with a refreshing, zesty lemon flavor, Amazing! Definitely try their marmalade.
Recommended Orders:Ben Butler - Warm Open-Faced Dungeness Crab Sandwich, melted cheddar cheese, sourdough bread, baby greens USD28.50
Eggs San Francisco - Two poached eggs with Dungeness Crab USD14.95

Ordered On:
06April2016
Seafood Omelet x2
Eggs San Francisco x2
*There's nothing really that special about the seafood omelet. Yes there's a lot of seafood bits in there but that's pretty much about it.*
*As usual the eggs San Fran are a hit with their light hollandaise sauce and meaty dungeneness  crab.*

Cliff House Bistro Burger with Garlic Fries x2

*A new order entry. By them doubling up the cheeses really gives the omph and adds that nice heart clogging, richness. The beef patty is a little on the salty side but still good overall. There's nothing to scream about for the garlic fries. The best garlic fries in town still goes to Super Duper.*
*Everyone were definitely thumbs up over the bread and jam and could happily live of those! A very quiet table with everyone eating away enjoying the good food and amazing view! Comparing to Mama's on Washington (click here for full review) that some have gone, Cliff House offers a wider menu selection by way of its savories.*
Fed 8 USD20/pax with tip
Ordered On:
18Oct2014:

Dungeness Crab Cakes Roasted Red Pepper Aioli USD17

*According the Candice, a frequent order-er of crab cakes,
rates these pocket puppies to standard. * Famous Clam Chowder USD11 x2 order.

*Two Thumbs up quality chowder. Chunky, creamy and flavorful. One large bowl filled about 3 individual's mini bowls*

Spicy Fried Calamari House made cocktail and Tartar sauce USD16.50

*It's good but nothing really to scream about*

The Ben Butler USD29.50

*Review as below on previous visit*
Grilled portobello Mushroom Sandwich. USD17.95
(Ciabatta bread, red peppers, goat cheese, fresh basil, garlic fries.)
*A respectable multi-tiered mushroom sandwich,
however the goat Cheese maybe slightly overpowering.*
Broiled Mahi-Mahi Sandwich. USD19.95
(House made Tartar sauce, ciabatta bread, baby greens.)
*Mahi-Mahi, a native fish to Hawaii. The fish was a little dry and texturally very similar to sword fish. It did however lack in seasoning*
Total USD131.48 For a party of 7
On this visit, overall the consensus about the food was that their servings were indeed above average. However, some felt that just ordering a clam shower and filling up on the semi-sweet, free flow of profiteroles and jams, accompanied by the backdrop of a stunning view of the pacific ocean was more than sufficient.

Went with staff's top three recommendations
The Ben Butler - Warm Open-Faced Dungeness Crab Sandwich, melted cheddar cheese, sourdough bread, baby greens USD28.50

*The winner amongst all the dishes, and definitely worth its weight in Dungeness Crab. You really get to taste the natural sweetness of the crab and all it's accompanying components do not disappoint. Well worth the order.*
Ocean Beach Sandwich -
Shrimp Salad, open-faced Dark Rye with Tomato, Avocado, Baby Greens

USD18.95

*Nothing really special here. In fact, it feels a like cheap frozen shrimp.*
Eggs San Francisco - Two poached Eggs with Dungeness Crab, toasted sourdough bread, brandy cream sauce USD18.95

*Eggs done well and to standard, although the Dungeness crab was a little over powered by the creaminess of the perfectly poached eggs but its absolutely stunning.*

Total USD72.21 Fed:3

Cliffhouse and it's accolades

For the dining experience, above average food at relatively reasonable prices and its deep history, a definitely not-to-be-missed location and I would make it my must go to pit stop before setting off for another road trip. Two thumbs up!

Don't forget to take a walk down to the bath house for great photo ops and a look around after a filling meal!

Love their pop over bread?*Contributed by Dora.*
You can either purchase them fresh or buy the premix to cook them yourself!
"It looked disappointing at first but when flipped over, it was a surprising sucess!/ About USD6.99 bakes 12." - Dora

Lefty O'Doul's
(350m from Parc55 Hotel)

Ordered:

Corned Beef Hash - House speciality, our premium corned beef hash is served with two eggs any style (sunny side or scrambled) and toast (sourdough, whole meal etc)
USD9.95

Fed1 Total USD9.95
This baseball, memorabilia and sports bar serves up their famous corned beef hash, which sad to say, wasn't a home run. More of a strike out in my books. Portions, although filling, there were corned beef chunks which were dried out and chewy.

Corned beef hash is a steel table top fried dish of potatoes, capsicums and corned beef. Egg was to standard I suppose for bar foods with choice of cheddar or swiss over it.

A place perhaps for baseball fans and the probable upside to this place was that it served Starbucks coffee on it premises.

Chipotle Mexican Grill
(250m from Parc55 Hotel)

11am-10pm daily
Located just one street down from Parc55 hotel, Chipotle is a Mexican fast-food joint, which is part of the McDonalds food brand.

Ordered:
Carnitas Taco USD7.56
*Operates like Subway. One picks and chooses their vessel (Taco, tortilla wrap, etc), choice of meat;beef, pork chicken) or vegan options, sauces and toppings,
with the final bill tallied at the end.*

Meats were pretty much indistinguishable under all the toppings of rice, sour cream and corn toppings. As
for level of spiciness, the highest spice level (only three levels with non-spicy the first, mild the second and spiciest the too) is probably similar in heat to Peri's Peri's 2nd to 3rd hottest tier, giving a warm heat.

For calorie counters, all choices have clearly demarcated 'damage'.
Fed1 Total USD7.56
Tad's Steakhouse
(Located 230m from Parc55 Hotel)

A very western place, presumably owned by a very Asian owner, deduced by the presence of the Fa-chai Mao (prosperity cat).

For cheap and decent, home style cooked steaks, Tad's steak house is located right beside Bangkok, reviewed above.

Ordered:13Feb2015
Early Bird Specials USD7.79 each
Tad's All American Breakfast
Tad's French Toast Combo

Nothing really special but it's near and convenient. However if you like the French Toast
combo, one's got to try (the brunch option served at Cheese cake factory, available onlyon Sundays. Click here for ABBA Review)

Ordered:
06May2014
Tad's Steak Special

T-bone steak comes a respectable medium rare, served with a small side salad and baked potato. A decent, home cooking standards, steak I supposed. With an all in price of USD16.30. for a convenient eat.

Fed1 Total:USD16.30
